Members of the RACE RC Modelers (AMA Chapter 1491) recently visited Laura Cullen's second grade class at the New Haven Elementary School, in New Haven, WV. Roy Grimm submitted this picture of the kids who enjoyed hearing and seeing our RC hobby up close. They were thrilled when the guys shared their expertise in flying models and told about how they have built and flown all sorts of model planes over the years. Roy also piloted a new quad-copter which tied in with a book the students have been reading called "Mr. Putter and Tabby Fly the Plane. Thanks to Roy Grimm and Craig Harrison for this story!
James Butler, a member of the Mountaineer RC Club in St. Albans, WV, recently flew his Flyzone Tidewater sea plane out over the Kanawha River and took these neat photos of an LST 325 Landing Craft that actually took part in the D-Day Invasion during World War II. The bottom photo shows it going under the new St. Albans-Nitro bridge, which is still under construction, and the top photo shows it moving slowly up the Kanawha river. Note the 2-1/2 ton truck on the deck which gives you some perspective of how large the 325 foot long landing craft is, which is now used as a floating museum. The photos were taken with a Mobius Action Cam.
Above is a picture of the RACE RC Modelers Club near Racine Locks and Dam, Rt. 62 South of Lehart, WV. They usually fly on Saturday and Sunday afternoons on their 900 ft. grass runway, with one end being blacktop. They meet on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 pm. They invite others to join them in flying (AMA card required) and welcome new members. Their field has restrooms, and two picnic shelters, running water, and plenty of parking. Stop in and see them!
The Johnstown RC Club participated in the first AMA National Model Aviation Day on Saturday, August 17th. They hosted Cub Pack 51 from the Dunlo/Salix PA area, which is nearby the club's flying field. They had two buddy box setups to let each guest have a hand at flying a trainer aircraft, and treated the boys and their parents to a picnic lunch. Members answered the many questions about our hobby that are always asked and all had a great time on a beautiful day! For some additional pictures from the outing, Click Here
