District V. P.
Hello District III
AMA District III Vice President
I want to thank everyone for voting in the recent AMA elections. I am honored and humbled that you elected me as your District III Vice President. I am a very active flyer and can be seen at many events throuhout Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. I feel this is an important element in representing you to the AMA. When you see me at an event or visiting your clubs I am more than happy to talk about the issues facing modelers and the AMA both now and in the future. I assure you that I will do my best to represent you, the modelers of District III.
That said, here is a brief summary of my RC back ground and experience in our hobby. I have been involved in our hobby for over 50 years. As a kid, I was introduced to the hobby by my Dad and he taught me to build and fly U-Control and RC Aircraft. I became interested in RC aerobatics at a young age, and flew my first pattern contest in 1969, and actually won my class!
Over the next few years I flew many more contests and eventually
competed on four US Aerobatic Teams (F3a) (75-77-79-81) and flew in the
Tournament of Champions 7 times from 1974 to 1982. I was influenced by many great District III modelers and events. After the 1982 season I retired from competition to devote more time to my family and profession. For the next 18 years I was inactive in model aviation. In 2000 the AMA had a flying event they called "Homecoming" so I took a trip to Muncie, IN to see the AMA Headquarters and museum. After that weekend I was hooked! All the advancements that had been made over the years in airplanes and equipment absolutely amazed me and the AMA facility and museum was also a big inspiration. It made me think of what can I do for the betterment of model aviation since it had been so good to me? I contacted then District III V.P. Bob Brown and he immediately made me an AVP for the district. Since then I have been actively involved in our district doing what I love to do, and that's fly model airplanes and meet others with the same interests. Moving forward I assure you that I will do my best to serve the modelers of District III as Vice President, and I look forward to meeting you in the near future. Thanks to all the modelers of District III for making model aviation a great hobby.
